In 1899, Waterford Wisconsin was a different place than it is today. The lumber mills had been converted to grist mills. The surrounding area was dotted by small farms and woodlands. The area's natural beauty was enhanced by the villages thriving commercial area.

Today Waterford, Wisconsin, is a quiet, classic, small (but growing) midwest town. It has retained much of its local charm and history. Wisconsin's Fox River that flows through western Racine County changes its face from a beautiful serene recreational waterway to a free flowing watershed below the dam in Waterford Village. This same Fox River grows into a mighty midwestern flowage as it progresses into central Illinois.
